Lighting is one of the most expensive features of a video game production, so crafting beautifully lit worlds that are also performant is crucial. During your 1-1 mentorship with nDreams’ Lighting Artist Elliott McSherry, you will learn to create lighting in both a visual and performant manner.
You will focus on the bigger picture through effective planning and preparation, while learning to structure your project’s lighting passes through an L0, L1 and L2 system. This format is designed to help you focus on the fundamentals of lighting at each production stage without losing sight of the bigger picture.
Personalized mentorship sessions will be formed around an existing project that you’d like to craft and compose the lighting for, and during the mentorship you’ll receive live feedback, demos, advice, and a number of lighting tips and tricks that Elliott picked up over the years working across various platforms and studios. You’ll collaborate on both the soft and hard skills in how you present project updates, communicate feedback changes, and dive deeper into the bigger picture and the rationale behind your lighting decisions.
By the end of the mentorship, you will have a stronger understanding and execution of lighting video game environments in a beautiful, yet performant manner. Alongside this, you’ll have further developed the soft skills to communicate your lighting work effectively to different stakeholders, know the difference in how to approach them, and how to present your actionable feedback to them. The workflows, actionable feedback, and techniques covered in this mentorship will help prepare you for both future portfolio projects and a studio production environment.
Please note: Mentorship start dates are guidelines – the exact date will be determined by your Mentor in the month listed. Each session will be scheduled to best accommodate both mentors and mentees.
